in indianapolis. this is their winning performance. awesome. congratulations. >> fantastic. >>> some local universities getting graded on how well they teach your kids. kristen dahlgren is live in washington wearing her college spectacles and a look at which northern california colleges will make the grade. surprising numbers this morning. >> reporter: yeah. they really are. i'm sure a lot of these universities are not going to be happy with this latest report card. the report is titled what will they learn. it looked at more than 700 universities across the country, they looked at how well or how many of these required core curriculum courses do they make students take before they graduate. they looked at seven key subjects, math, history, science, literature, foreign language, composition and economics. what they found was students have these huge knowledge gaps. they gave more than 60% of the schools they looked at less than a "c" or below. so, let's look and see how some of the local schools did. uc berkeley, davis, santa cruz came in with fs on requiring one of those subjects or none

at and that's got stocks sliding further south. the fed's chicago president told the meeting in indianapolis that while we are seeing general signs of recovery, the economy itself is not yet out of the woods particularly the housing market. we could see up to 3 million foreclosures this year, possibly more than 1 million bank repos. and the housing market will weigh on the market even further. in just a few minutes from now, we get the july existing sales report from the national association of realtors not pretty. looking for a drop of around 25% or so from the month before that. looking at the market right now, got the dow lower by 113 points. starting to approach that 10,000 level again. nasdaq is down by 30, s&p off by 13. there is one local company that has seen its stock continue to rise that's fremont-based data storage company 3par, shares up 3.5% after hp came one a bigger bid than dell of yesterday of $1.5 billion and all reports point to that dell will come up with an even bigger bid than that this morning. that's why shareholders are jumping all over 3par. its shares have soared
